Most of our historical fiction is just that - fiction.
Even on The History Channel, so much so-called history is factually inaccurate, that I suggest that everyone do what I do - research the subjects and find out the real truth. It makes these histories more enjoyable and we should all teach kids to research facts.
It will make them learn to think and not to just take what they hear and see without a grain of salt.
The old adage to believe half of what you see and none of what you hear is a good byword for life - especially in historical movies !

For instance, in the film, "The Other Boleyn Girl", they made what were really two girls put forth as concubines by their family, as was common in those days, into rivals, bitches, and they reversed many facts about them.
Here are some facts:
Facts on The Boleyn Girls:

MARY WAS OLDER THAN ANNE BOLEYN
MARY DIED BEFORE ANNE
LITTLE ELIZABETH WAS RAISED AT COURT

So, while we can admire the way writers take the truth and twist it into their own tales, let's all learn the truth by researching the facts in everything.
